The Need to Burn Responsibly
Communities should not have to suffer from excessive wood smoke from old wood stoves and fireplace inserts. Units manufactured prior to July 1, 1990 produce more than 70 percent more smoke than compared to appliances with today's technology.

Hearth Industry Protecting Clean Air
For more than a decade, wood stove manufacturers have been developing and manufacturing products that produce less than 6 grams of particle pollution an hour. This is a significant drop from the 40-60 grams produced by older appliances.

Do Your Part
It’s easy to make the change and enjoy a clean-burning fire. Today, there are wood stoves certified by the EPA to be clean-burning, as well as stoves that burn gas and pellets. These same stoves are also sold as fireplace inserts, and can be added to a fireplace to reduce the amount of emissions to the lowest levels.
